A beautiful sighting last week of the 2 Madrid pride lionesses together with a Marataba male lion. The Madrid mother lionesses' 5 month-old cubs stole the show as they were intrigued by their impressive father. Lion cubs are naturally curious about the pride males, often approaching them with a mix of caution and intrigue. Pride males are intimidating due to their size and strength, but cubs are drawn to them as they learn social dynamics. Cubs will playfully paw at or follow the males, testing boundaries while seeking attention or mimicking behaviors. This curiosity helps cubs learn their place in the pride’s hierarchy, but it can be risky. Pride males’ reactions vary — some are very tolerant of their cubs, while others may be aloof or aggressive. Cubs often approach males during rest periods, when the males are less likely to react aggressively.
