Episode 54 of the Pioneers in Aged Care Podcast with Scott Lawton, CIO of Apollo Care Alliance is LIVE! Scott is also the Founder & CEO of IT Integrity and and in this episode he details his extensive background, which began with establishing IT Integrity in 2001. For over a decade, his work centered on strategic consulting and enterprise architecture, most notably with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer on global acquisition tech streams, and with Aldi Stores, where he functioned as an interim IT Director during vast infrastructure expansion projects across Australia. This dual experience in complex healthcare scenarios and massive corporate scaling has provided a unique foundation for his later focus on the aged care industry. Around 2009, Scott recognized a shift in the business landscape that prompted his firm to conduct a rigorous strategic analysis of future opportunities. This assessment pointed directly toward the Aged Care sector, identified as technologically lagging yet facing imminent, massive demand driven by the aging Baby Boomer demographic. Crucially, the sector's humanitarian mission appealed to Scott, contrasting with the confidential nature of his prior corporate work. This foresight allowed IT Integrity to position itself as a technology leader in an area ripe for transformation, leveraging existing skills in capital projects and healthcare exposure. Scott’s deep immersion in aged care began through strategic acquisitions, such as bringing Datacare into the fold, which instantly added crucial managed service capabilities IT Integrity needed, like first-level support. He recounted significant early successes, including the 2011 digital overhaul of Star Gardens, which proved technology could rapidly drive profitability and efficiency. This work, alongside advocacy efforts with peak bodies like ITAC, established IT Integrity as a key technology consultant deeply woven into the sector’s evolving fabric, effectively serving as the backbone for Australian aged care IT strategy for years. This experience directly informed Scott’s current role as CIO at Apollo Care, which began in earnest following their first acquisition in 2020. In this capacity, he not only manages the entire IT function but also runs the PMO, overseeing the acquisition and turnaround process for new providers. Apollo’s business model focuses on injecting capital investment and optimized systems into underperforming regional and rural facilities. Scott has been able to implement the very best practices he historically recommended, building a scalable architecture designed specifically for rapid growth and operational alignment under the Apollo framework.
