PTSD is a very serious disorder that involves the intrusion in people's consciousness, very negative, traumatic thoughts based on a horrible experience that they had in the past. Very common among people in the military, people who've done tours of duty in let's say Iraq, Afghanistan, et cetera, to come home. We know that war is hell and that's part of the manifestation of the way in which war is hell. It is thought that medications like SSRIs, SNRIs help mitigate or prevent those types of symptoms from occurring, and they've been used for years to try to help people with PTSD get better, but they don't always work. The way that SSRs is work as they worked on the serotonin system in the brain. Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter that we think is important in creating happiness and calmness in our brains. If we don't have enough of that transmitter, serotonin, then we lose that happiness and we become anxious, we become depressed. Norepinephrine is another one that's involved in SNRI, selected norepinephrine re-uptake inhibitors. That's what SNRI stands for, and the norepinephrine helps give us alertness. Dopamine is another important neurotransmitter that gives us pleasure. When we don't have enough pleasure, we don't have enough alertness, we don't have enough happiness, and we have too much anxiety, SSRIs, SNRIs can be helpful, and yet they're often times not helpful. Why is that? Well, it turns out that there's another system involved, and that's called glutamate. Glutamate is an entirely different system, and that is very much modulated and affected by ketamine, which is an old drug that has a new use, and that is to balance the glutamate system in the brain. It helps prevent those intrusive, negative, traumatic thoughts from occurring in our consciousness with PTSD. DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT KETAMINE TREATMENT?
