Justinianus is one of the songs in the album “The Purple Throne,” where many historical characters and events are presented in chronological order. This is a vibes-based creation and not how Byzantine songs were actually performed. It is heavily inspired by the period and realized using AI and other software, as with most of my projects. This piece is a short imperial acclamation chant inspired by the Nika period of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire. Rather than a modern song, it is presented as a restrained chant built on repetition, crowd rhythm, and spoken authority, reflecting how public loyalty and resolve were expressed in Late Antiquity. The text is written in Early Byzantine Greek (Koine Greek), the administrative and ceremonial language of imperial proclamations during the reign of Emperor Justinian I. English subtitles are included for clarity. The chant emphasizes three core elements of imperial acclamations in Constantinople: a repeated victory cry directed toward the Roman state, a proclamation of imperial authority and law, a brief, forceful response attributed to Empress Theodora. This is not a scholarly reconstruction of ancient music and is not intended to sound like modern cinematic “epic” music. The minimal melody, monotone delivery, and repetition are intentional, designed to evoke the weight, discipline, and collective voice of an imperial crowd rather than a performance ensemble. Think of this as an impression of Byzantine public ritual, not a soundtrack.
