This arrangement features the warm, resonant tones of the erquanqin (二泉琴)—a lower-pitched relative of the erhu—paired with overtone singing (khöömei) and a free-rhythm introduction that evokes the vast, mysterious stillness of the Mongolian steppe. With lyrics by Purzbujab Sunduijab and acclaimed filmmaker Zhangke Jia, the song reflects on solitude, longing, and the quiet erosion of tradition.
