On Day 3 of our 5-day winter campervan road trip across eastern Hokkaido, we leave Akan early in the morning and head to Tsurui Village to witness Japan’s legendary snow cranes. We captured them in flight, dancing, feeding — and the perfect landing moment. After the sanctuary, we drive to Kushiro’s famous Washo Market to build our own “Kattedon” seafood bowl, choosing fresh toppings one by one. Then we continue east toward Akkeshi — where we almost got our hands on a rare local whisky… almost.
