When we find a good spot to collect shark teeth fossils we go hard. We hunt like today could be the last time we get to collect it. It’s happened over and over - spots get finished, holes get filled in and built on, permissions get revoked. Anything can spell the end so we don’t play. The last time we were here, yesterday (last week’s video) was a megalodon tooth bonanza. I pulled some huge meg teeth with great quality. We found it difficult to leave because the weather forecast called for rain but we were exhausted from digging all day and we needed to sleep. Tired as we were, excitement and anticipation for what the next day would bring kept us awake. Then the rains came, and with each drop came the potential of exposing the tip, root, or serrations of a monster megalodon tooth. We finally got to sleep, but not before Diva set her alarm for the crack of dawn, which was exactly when it went off. I had barely opened my eyes and she was standing there in full collecting gear. Let’s go! Get up, I’m ready to dig. I wasn’t complaining, I wasn’t coherent enough to complain. Not that I would, I was as excited as she was, but she’s younger than me so she moves faster. Before the roosters finished crowing we were at the site. The ruts were spilling over with rainwater. My 4x4 powered through the mud in true South Carolina redneck fashion. At one point I thought we were going to slide into a ditch but we made it to the spot. Diva was sure someone was going to beat us there because they were more devoted than us to find teeth freshly exposed, but like yesterday we were the only ones around. We eagerly approached the hole and saw it was almost completely underwater! Only the tops of the sand and gravel mounds we piled up the day before broke the surface of the water. No matter, we anticipated the high water and came prepared with sifting baskets. We had only a few minutes worth of surface collecting, then it was time to sift. How could today possibly be better than yesterday?? We were about to find out! I hope you enjoy the video and our finds. Don’t forget to see Diva’s take on her @AncientAdventures channel.
