It also has new steering-wheel controls that do away with the annoying touch-sensitive buttons from before, which is a welcome upgrade. Revised headlights, taillights, and new wheel designs are also on the menu. For Europe-market models, the turbo four-cylinder engine gains a bit of power compared with before, but sadly we are told that the extra power won't make its way to U.S. cars. Unfortunately, if you want a manual-transmission GTI, you’d better act fast, because the 2025 edition won’t offer a stick shift. The 2024 GTI 380 edition represents your last chance to shift your own gears. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI is expected to start around $34,000 and go up to $42,000 depending on the trim and options. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The Volkswagen Golf GTI uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, which will make around the same 241 horsepower as before (we don't yet have U.S.-specific power figures for the updated model). The only transmission choice this time around will be the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which delivers quick shifts but is ultimately a bit less engaging than the discontinued six-speed manual transmission. Fortunately, even the automatic GTI is a fun car to drive, thanks a firm brake pedal, and an eagerness to change direction that makes it a blast to drive on a curvy road. In our initial test drive of the Europe-spec model, we found it to be slightly less playful than before due to changes in the steering tuning and other tweaks. The optional 19-inch wheels on the car we drove, an option that may or may not be available in the U.S., hurt ride quality and agility, so we recommend going for the smaller wheel choices.
