In this episode of the GDB Cummins Defender build, it’s time to tackle one of the biggest issues so far – the rotten floor pans. Things start with a look at the problem: rusty old pans and shiny new replacement panels ready to go in. Along the way I show the Cummins engine that will eventually power this truck before moving it out of the way so I can get stuck into the Defender’s bulkhead. Stripping begins… and of course we find more hidden rust up the passenger side, which means the dash has to come out too. With everything apart, I remove the old sealant (including a small accidental fire with the blow torch…), drill out the spot welds, cut away the rot, and get everything prepped for welding.
