Venmo: venmo.com/TalesofKaimere PayPal: paypal.biz/TalesofKaimere Hi folks! For the past two years, I have followed a megaraptoran coming of age in Kaimere. Two years ago, the Ballad of Ka’Hai followed an uktan on the Houze Prairie of Ni’Khar, and last year, we followed Tenir’ha and Baru the zentaur growing up in Arvel, spanning the hollars of the highlands, the basins and titan gardens, and south to the cold steppes. This year, we return to the northern continent, though instead of the dry prairie, this story takes place in the Seridic Wetlands. Our protagonist species this year is the ba’khar. While our first two sagas focused on the robust monarchs of the Apeirovenatorid megaraptorans, this will be our first styraconychid, or gracile megaraptoran. Our story will begin with Fai Zhemi, a young ba’khar enjoying the easy life in her mother’s territory. Styraconychids don’t have the lengthy parental care of the robust monarchs, so pretty early on she will be on her own. These large, slow growing predators make very useful protagonists as their growth lets us see a wide range of residents in the wetlands. In our first two chapters, while she is very young, we will encounter a lot of small fish, frogs, lizards, and rodents that she hunts, and the red panthers and ceratosaurs which are a persistent threat. As she outgrows both these predators and prey, we’ll meet large fish, giant crocs, and big mammals like hippos and water buffalo she hunts and fears. This year our journey will span four chapters, seeing her grow from a tiny fisher dependent on her mother to a formidable mother in her own right. The Seridic Wetlands is home to two other species of megaraptoran. The Seridic alar, a close cousin of the ba’khar, and the kurajaku, a robust monarch that independently took to the waters of Kaimere. Though the ba’khar is the focal species, we will learn about the life and growth of the other two by virtue of their sharing territory. There’s plenty of fish, aquatic mammals, and crocs to go around. The main source of conflict in these three species is not for food. It’s for nest sites. Connor has returned to sponsor this series. As I did last year, and with Connor’s approval, I’ve decided to fundraise for it to expand the art budget! The higher my budget, the more art I can make. I’d love to include a few more scenes in color for example, and those take a lot of time. Lots of fish and other small fauna I’m particularly interested in for the first two chapters especially, and I’d love to feature some individual variation in the ba’khar, alar, and kurajaku in this environment. Absolutely no pressure of course. The episodes will happen regardless of how this fundraiser goes, but a higher budget will let me show more individuals and species realized in more detailed color illustrations. If you’d like to join as an art sponsor, send whatever you would like to contribute to the budget either to PayPal at theillustratedmenagerie@gmail.com, or Venmo @TalesofKaimere. Be sure to add ‘Sponsoring Ba’khar Fable’ or something to that effect in the memo! This coming Saturday the 4th at 10am EST to noon, I will be hosting a Q&A livestream on my YouTube channel to promote the series! Probably won’t be able to answer a whole lot of specifics about the saga since it will be in progress and obviously the fundraiser could alter what art shows up, but I do have the first two chapters written, and I will answer whatever I can! Questions about the project overall or whatever you like are also of course welcome, just know I may not be able to confirm some things without study and consideration. I will of course answer whatever I can. You can send funds whenever you like, during the fundraiser or anytime beforehand. I may do another fundraiser in November as well. All depends on timing.
