Perform Awesome Freestyle Scratching! https://www.kwotemusic.com/the-secret... 1 Click Flare – Similar to an og flare, but the fader only closes and opens once in the middle of a forward or reverse record movement, creating 2 notes per record movement. When done on both the forward and reverse record movement in succession, it is known as a 1 click orbit, creating 4 notes. Keep in mind, any flare with the same amount of clicks done forward and reverse sequentially is known as an orbit. Flares are a very attractive scratch because they’re one of the scratches you can do to get a lot of speed. 1 click flares are the first flare scratch you should learn because it’s the easiest to do. It’ll also prepare you for learning the 2 click flare scratch, og flare scratch, 3 click flare scratch and more flare related scratch techniques. 1 CLICK FLARE VARIATIONS There are 3 variations of the 1 Click Flare: 1. 1 Click Flare 2. Reverse 1 Click Flare 3. 1 Click Orbit Most dj’s, including new students of mine, are not aware of any version but the 1 click orbit. They know it as the 1 click flare, but it’s actually a 1 click orbit because you click the fader once when moving the record forward and once when moving the record back, creating 4 notes in total. The regular 1 click flare consists of only 1 click when moving the record in the forward direction. To perform the 1 click flare, push the record forward while simultaneously closing and opening the fader. Then pull the record back (while keeping the fader open) to complete the scratch. This will total 3 notes (2 notes forward, one note back). The reverse 1 click flare consists of only 1 click when moving the record in the reverse direction. To perform the reverse 1 click flare, push the record forward, then pull back the record while closing and opening the fader. This will also total 3 notes (1 note forward, 2 notes back). For details on the orbit see above. 1 CLICK FLARE SCRATCH COMBOS Now that you know the 1 click flare variations and how to perform them, you’ll want to combine them with other scratches. Here are three 1 click flare combos: 1. Baby, 1 click flare 2. Baby, reverse 1 click flare 3. Baby, 1 click orbit In regards to the record, these combos are 2 babies in a row. The second baby is where you will add your clicks. Refer to my description of 1 click flare variations for further instruction. Put simply, to perform these combos do the baby scratch technique, followed by whichever 1 click flare variation you choose. The baby 1 click orbit is the foundation of the popular chirp flare scratch. This is like the most common version of the chirp flare, with less fader clicks. Learning this combo will make learning the chirp flare easier. It’s also more unique sounding because most dj’s don’t use this combo. 1 CLICK FLARE SCRATCH PATTERNS To expand your combos and improve your flow, you should learn 1 click flare scratch patterns. Here are five 1 click flare patterns to get you started: 1. Baby, baby, 1 click flare 2. Baby, baby, reverse 1 click flare 3. Baby, baby, 1 click orbit 4. Baby, 1 click flare, 1 click flare 5. Baby, 1 click orbit, 1 click orbit The easiest way to create scratch patterns out of scratch combos, is to use repetition of either technique within the combo. That’s what I’ve done in the above patterns. To create more patterns, you can do the same. You can also change the sequence of techniques in your patterns to create even more patterns. These are simple and effective ways to create scratch patterns, so you never run out of ideas. 1 CLICK FLARE FREESTYLE SCRATCHING The main reason to create combos and patterns, is so you can smoothly flow in/out of whichever scratches you choose while freestyling. The process of integrating scratch patterns can take time, but the easiest way is to start with a new pattern, then follow with scratches you’re already comfortable freestyling with. Once you’ve gone through this process, you’ll want to implement other strategies for further integration. When you can use a scratch pattern, wherever you choose within your freestyle (before, in the middle, or after other scratches) you’ve achieved full integration. Integrating your patterns is a big part of freestyle scratching successfully. The fastest, easiest way for you to do that is to get highly effective scratch training.
