This video shows how to adjust the wing ID band on chicks being raised for county livestock shows through programs like 4H and FFA. My daughters are raising poultry for the upcoming livestock show. To keep the competition fair, all contestants receive their baby chicks on the same day, and they are all tagged with identification numbers. The ID tags are just a strip of metal that goes through their wing and is folded back on itself. As the chicks grow, this wingband needs to be adjusted (widened) to allow the wing to have proper circulation. To adjust the wing band, we use a pair of needle nose pliers and a wide blade screw driver. While the youngster holds the baby chick securely, firmly grip the rivet on the wing band with the pliers. Stick the blade of the screw driver in between the strips of metal on the tag, and twist the screw driver to separate the tag -- widening the gap to allow the bird to grow.
