Hello and welcome to this report about the German destroyer Z 10 Hans Lody from the time of the Second World War. The model is on a scale of 1:400 and can be seen here with two other models, which I will also briefly discuss. The kit was published by JSC-Verlag and includes the destroyer Z10 and the torpedo boat T 24. The model is 31 cm long and consists of 531 parts. The Hans Lody was commissioned in September 1938 and was mostly used in the Norwegian area during the war. She was 119 meters long and ran 36 knots. Her main armament consisted of 5 12.7 cm caliber guns and 8 torpedo tubes. The striking red painting of the towers is not documented in more detail, but was probably only applied in the first phase of the war to signal to the German air force that these were German ships. Like all other German destroyers, the Hans Lody suffered from unreliable propulsion turbines and was therefore often in the shipyard. The photos and information in this film mostly come from this book about the German destroyers of the German Navy. During the war, pictures of German warships were always top secret and so there are ultimately only a few photos from this time, often in poor quality. The kit also includes the T 24 torpedo boat, and both models can be seen here. In April 1944, the Hans Lody was withdrawn from the war effort and went to the shipyard in Kiel for major reconstruction and modernization. A gun turret was removed and the anti-aircraft armament was significantly strengthened. So I printed out the bow of the Hans Lody myself and built it again with this armament. He is in my collection as Z 15 Erich Steinbrinck. The Hans Lody was used in the last days of the war to evacuate refugees in the Baltic Sea area and was in Copenhagen at the end of the war. She came to England by drawing lots and was transferred to England in January 1946 with a mixed German / English crew. There she was used for a few tests and was finally scrapped in 1949. This ends the little excursion into naval history. I thank you for taking your time and say goodbye.
