Today on our 2014 Malibu, we're going to be test fitting the 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier. They designed this for use in inch and a quarter hitches, it also has the two inch adapter if you want to go from one car to another with it. They offer up to a five hundred pound weight capacity with it. The part number is: C18145. To begin the test fit, you just slide the shank right into the receiver tube of our hitch. Now we want to slide it in far enough so that the threaded hole lines up with our hitch pin hole. Once we have those in line we'll take our anti-rattle bolt. We're going to thread that in, then we'll use our wrench to tighten it down. Once we have that tight, as you can see, it's going to take the play out of our connection point there. Now we can get a couple measurements. We get these measurements to tell you exactly how much clearance or how much room that you have to work with. With the rack in relation to the car and, you know, with the ground. This closest point, the carrier is going to be about an inch and a quarter from the rear of the car. As you can see when we try to manipulate it, we can't get it to make contact, so you should have no issues there. Overall, the carrier has added about nineteen and half inches to the length of the Malibu, and it offers us about nine and three quarters of an inch worth of ground clearance. The exhaust on this particular Malibu, it is the LT model, exits here underneath the rear bumper on the driver side. Get a quick measurement. It's located about eleven and half inches from the front of our carrier. You might want to keep that in mind if you're going to be transporting any kind of heat sensitive materials or something like that. The only thing we've got left to do now, is load our carrier with some gear. We'll take it out on the test course so you can see what it looks like in action. Here on our test course we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action. This simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb, or a pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, parking garage, or driveway. .
