Humans are just a bag of meat and bones, all of which is mostly water (up to 70%). Why do babies move so fluidly? Why do they have so much range of motion everywhere? Why do their squats look perfect? Because they are very, very well hydrated. Their tissues are new, full of hydration - they’ve yet to succumb to the compressive forces of gravity. As we age, our tissues become more dehydrated. Gravity continues to shove us down towards the ground over years, and our tissues become less pliable over time, specifically in certain areas that we don’t move into often. And as father time + mother nature + gravity have their way with us, we become stiff because fluids cannot move as they used to within the closed system of our body. Sitting is a small reflection of what age and time do to us. What “mobility” truly is from a macro-perspective: fluids and pressure can move through your body as they please, with little to no resistance. When there is not enough resistance, this can lead to hypermobility issues (usually caused by something congenital and/or poor training over many years). When there is too much resistance, this leads to feelings of stiffness and/or pain. We need to stop treating the body as individual pieces, dictated by individual muscles. When we understand, from a macro-level, how to improve and restore the fluid and pressure dynamics within our body, it doesn’t matter what diagnosis you’ve been given - ALL PAIN IMPROVES. Be like water, friends. Stay moving, practice your breathing, and spend more time outdoors. #sitting #stiff #pt #physicaltherapy #water #outdoors #mothernature #bones #body #joints #movement #years #tissues #muscles
