Today's theme was about the dangers of a parasocial relationship between strangers online. In particular, one between streamers and viewers. We live in an age where people are infinitely connected via social media platforms and yet are incredibly isolated. People start to believe someone online or a celebrity is their friend because they spend all of their free time and even donate money to them. I wanted to create something hauntingly beautiful in the way Laufey composes her music. I also had it as a goal this year to write lyrics inspired by the chaos of Geordie Greep. I don't think I could ever quite touch either of these masters in their craft but I wanted to give it a shot. Something voyeuristic and disturbing like a true crime that on the surface sounds like a lullaby. Greep-Cast was a close second for the title (credit Maggie). Forgive the horribly out of tune guitar and sloppy arpeggios. I wanted this one to be raw and down-tuned to E flat and my hollowbody was struggling to keep up... Lyrics: Idly spending our nights Alone, together We're having a grand time The two of us What could be better? I've not left my flat in a month I can't be bothered I'm ignoring calls from my job They're distressed And so is my mother I'm watching you Through the screen I'm laughing (as if) Nearly on cue I'm donating everything My whole life's worth Just for a mention on stream (Respond to me) I'm starting to think You're not really listening I see I've been muted in chat What the hell? You can't be that busy I'm watching you From your balcony I'm laughing now (as if) All of it's true I'm taking back everything spent My whole life's worth Now tell me Hunter, are we friends? (Respond to me)
