Teaching guides for this lecture is available for download here: https://t.ly/URPF It is not just our architecture, but also the physical context of Philippine towns and cities, that has shaped our lives in the last four centuries. Paulo Alcazaren talks about the history and development of Philippine cities and towns to understand our present struggles as a nation, in terms of our urban architecture. For Alcazaren, the unfolding narrative of our towns and cities must be told from the Filipino's point of view, because it is our story, currently a tragedy, but one that can be rewritten once we realize we can and should control its outcome. Teachers of Art Appreciation in college can use this lecture as a resource material for teaching contemporary issues of Philippine architecture and in understanding the traditions and developments of the living art of Philippine urbanism Paulo Alcazaren delivered this lecture at De La Salle University on March 29, 2019 as part of Project Virkurso: 10 Lectures on Philippine Arts and Culture. The project is led by teachers from DLSU's Department of Literature and funded by CHED-NCCA Salikha Creative Grant.
