----------------------------- Tips for traveling: 1. Hanami calendar. The Japanese cherry tree or sakura, has long been adored by people across the world. Every year during the spring months, thousands of people travel to Japan to view the cherries blossom. Blooms usually start in the southern part of Japan, and blooming goes towards the northern part. Every year the exact timing of cherry blossom changes, but it is always reflected in Hanami calendar, which shows the periods for cherry blossom for each region of Japan. Of course, during hanami, it gets very busy in Japan, but it is definitely worthy and a great life experience. Another tip: be awarr of the period of golden week in late April/early May. During that time, the Japanese people have a week off and they are travelling themselves around Japan, making it even more busier. 2. Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Our tip: try to come as early as possible to the forest to avoid the crowds which start gathering around 9:00 AM. The sound of the rustling bamboo within this forest has been named as one of the “100 Soundscapes of Japan” by the Japanese Ministry of Environment. 3. Tea ceremonies. Although initially the tea was brought to Japan from China, Tea ceremonies play an important part in Japanese culture. Harmony, respect, purity and tranquility are all essential parts of the customary tea ceremony performed today in Japan. We tried a tea ceremony in Kyoto, Tea Ceremony Koto and we were greatly impressed by the whole experience. 4. Kiyomizu Dera Temple. The Temple is usually open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. However, during the spring, summer, and autumn illumination periods, you can also visit the temple at night. You need to check dates and times in advance online but it is definitely a unique way to see the temple. 5. What to buy in Japan? As mentioned already, the tea culture is one of the main elements in Japanese culture, so naturally, you will find a good quality tea and the whole tea set. Of course, bamboo chopsticks and Japanese knives are also known to be as good purchases in Japan. We also bought spoons for ramen as well as few bottles of soya sauce. And if you are in need for some electronic gadget, such as headphones, why not to check it out in Japan as well? Japan has a long standing tradition for electronics such as SONY, etc. So, it can good and useful souvenir :)
