This video is about the Crested Hawk Eagle that I captured many times during my holidays. They are also known as Changeable Hawk Eagle. I was lucky enough to capture five Crested Hawk Eagles during this period. In the first part we were able to watch the Hawk Eagle at a very close distance. He was perched on a tree stump by the side of the road in the wild life sanctuary. We were able to stop our jeep right by the side of the tree log where he was perched. Then for the second time we were able to come more closer to about six feet and he still didnt move and looked totally relaxed. The tracker said during his years of experience even he had not seem such a scene where we were able to come very cose to an Eagle who didn't fly away. I hope that you were able to see in detail the Crested Hawk Eagle as seen in the wild. Crested Hawk-eagle ================ The Changeable Hawk-Eagle or Crested Hawk-eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus) is a bird of prey species of the family Accipitridae. Changeable Hawk-Eagles breed in the Indian Subcontinent, mainly in India, Sri Lanka and from the southeast rim of the Himalaya across Southeast Asia to Indonesia and the Philippines. This is a bird occurring singly (outside mating season) in open woodland, although island forms prefer a higher tree density. It builds a stick nest in a tree and lays a single egg.Breeding season is December to April.Young birds are often whiter-headed than adults, and underparts less marked. This subspecies is polymorphic, with a dark and a pale morph. The Changeable Hawk-Eagle is a medium-large raptor at about 24--28 in- in length. It is a relatively slender forest eagle with some subspecies being dimorphic giving the name of "Changeable". This, and also a complicated phylogeny further complicates precise identification. Some subspecies have a crest of four feathers, but this is all but absent in others. The sexes are quite similar in their plumage, but males are about 15% smaller than females. Changeable Hawk-Eagles eat mammals, birds and reptiles. They like to keep a sharp lookout perched bolt upright on a bough amongst the canopy foliage of some high tree standing near a forest clearing. There they wait for junglefowl, pheasants, hares and other small animals coming out into the open. The bird then swoops down forcefully, strikes, and bears the prey away in its talons. Crested Hawk Eagles are the most widespread and common Asian hawk eagle with five subspecies. Changeable Hawk-eagle is among the endangered species listed, under the CITES (Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). Some of the important threats to these birds are habitat destruction, opportunistic poaching, and illegal shooting.
