This is a fun drill that helps you practice your trigger control and follow-through - firing a shot and getting back on target to take a second shot. It gives you good live-fire experience but uses only HALF the ammunition, so it's a great training drill for conserving ammo in times when it's scarce (as it was recently in 2020-21). You fire a live round, then immediately get to check your marksmanship fundamentals by "firing" a dry shot. Because this drill involves live fire, follow the safety procedures to the letter. Shoot from the 15-yard line at a 6" target. Steps: (1) Load and make ready. (2) THEN remove the magazine from the gun, so you'll have only ONE round, the one in the chamber. (3) Fire that round, recover, and squeeze the trigger on the empty chamber to get the "click." (4) REPEAT this cycle 10 times. The goal is to get a score of 70% or 7 out of 10 shots inside the 6" target. If you have trouble achieving the 70% score consistently, move up to the 10-yard line for a while. If nailing a 70% or better score is easy-peasy for you, go down to a 4" target. NOTE: This drill must be shot with a pistol that does not have a magazine disconnect safety, which prevents it from firing if there's no magazine in the gun.
