Jeff is back at the range for another live-fire training drill, but this drill involves a revolver. It's called the Ball and Dummy Drill - "ball ammunition and dummy rounds," minus actual dummy ammo. It's a timed exercise, so you'll need the timer we've used in several recent drills. You'll be shooting in double action mode at a 6" target 7 yards away, with 3 seconds to shoot each stage of the drill. Start in the ready position. When the timer goes off, mount the revolver and fire ONE shot. Then take your finger OUT of the triggerguard, open the cylinder, rotate it, and close the cylinder. Return to the ready position. On the timer signal, mount the gun again and fire TWO rounds. Repeat the finger out of triggerguard and cylinder rotation process. When you're back at the ready, on the timer signal, shoot THREE rounds. You'll likely experience a "click," rather than a "bang," when you go to fire shots in the second and third stages. When you hear the "click," check your sight alignment. Have the sights moved off the target? Are you pulling the trigger too hard? Without the noise and flash of a round going off, the Ball and Dummy Drill helps see if your sights are actually on the target as you pull the trigger. The 3-second par time gets a little challenging for that final 3-shot stage. If the drill is too difficult at first, move up to 5 yards and even go up to an 8" target. When you get proficient with that set up, go back to the 6" target and the 7-yard line.
