Born in a family of artists, Calder utilized his innovative genius to profoundly change the course of modern art. Jed Perl, author and art critic at The New Republic, explores how Calder's avant-garde vision was shaped by his artistic parents' progressive ideas and ideals. Jed Perl is the art critic for The New Republic. Among his books are New Art City, Antoine's Alphabet, and Eyewitness. He is currently working on the first full-length biography of Alexander Calder.
