INSECT WEEK SPECIAL EVENT Insect pollinators like bees and hoverflies are crucial for the reproduction of many wild plant species as well as for our food production. It is concerning that many are in decline, largely driven by the loss of flowers from our countryside, which provide the nectar and pollen they eat. Against this backdrop, urban areas have expanded, and residential gardens provide a vital refuge for pollinators. Informed by his PhD research on nectar supplies in urban landscapes, NIck Tew will discuss how important a role gardens may play in pollinator conservation and how we can all contribute through our gardening practices.
