Hello! I had an open hysterectomy, where they cut an incision in my lower abdomen area and removed my uterus, cervix and fallopian tubes. They left my ovaries, because they were healthy looking. I had a medical condition called Adenomyosis in my uterus, that was continuing on and on and on. I am 58 years old. My surgery was performed at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. I spent one night overnight at the hospital following the surgery. I was able to come home to my own home and take care of myself within the first week following surgery! I wanted to let others know about this procedure and how it went for me because I was really scared about it, for myself! Thank goodness I have been healthy and strong and fit. That has helped tremendously in my recovery! Please let me know if you have any questions! I am doing really well, with some soreness in the belly area, but only if I overdo things or move in a way that is not good for my recovery. The hardest part is getting in and out of bed, which has been painful, but now it is much better, and gets better every day. I have been walking every day, and started driving on day 5 after surgery. I am taking things nice and slow and try to be careful in my movements. I have been also been working on getting rest and naps and eating well. So far, so good!
