Enjoy a stroll a 60 minute 🚴 bike ride in 4K from the Destin Army Recreation Center to the Destin bridge, and along the new Bridge to Bridge bike trail. See a 6 ft shark 🦈along the way, as well as white sand dunes on Eglin AFB. If you want to know more about the Destin Army Recreation Center just click here, or drop a comment, and I will answer your questions there. My wife and I, as well as our friends have stayed here many times. https://benning.armymwr.com/destin They are a great place to escape Winter. They run specials in the Winter if you are staying by the week. Our ride took us across the William T. Marler Bridge (commonly called the Destin Bridge or Marler Bridge), where the shark was seen. This is the main bridge connecting the mainland Destin area to Okaloosa Island over the pass/harbor entrance. The path continues over to the John T. Brooks Bridge (often just called Brooks Bridge), which is the other end of the "Bridge to Bridge" multi-use path/trail on Okaloosa Island, connecting to Fort Walton Beach/Okaloosa Island areas. This bridge is currently in the process of being replaced and I'm not sure if the new bridge will have the same name as the old bridge. I'm not sure what type of shark this was (I'm from Missouri and we don't often get to see sharks). If you know what type it is, please drop a comment and let us know! Chapters: 0:00 - 1:16 Introduction and information about the Destin Army Recreation Center. 1:17 - 13:43 Riding through the subdivision to get to the bridge. 0:13:44 - 20:13 Watching the tide come in on the bridge, looking at a scuba diver, looking for fish. 20:14 - 20:20 A fishman walks by with a nice Sheepshead fish. He caught it with ghost shrimp for bait, letting the tide take the bait to the bridge piers. 20:21 - 20:40 Passing his slightly impatient friend. 20:41 - 20:51 Watching for fish. 20:52 -23:01 Shark Ahoy! 23:01 - 26:42 Clear blue water with the tide coming in. 26:43 - 1:07:35 The bridge to bridge trail. My philosophy is "If you are going to limp, go limp somewhere nice." My wife and I rode bicycles on our first date back when Moby Dick was still a guppy. We like to take Amtrak trains to new places and rent eBikes there so we don't have to bother taking ours on the train. We took this video during a trip to Florida where we stayed at the Destin Army Recreational Center. Since January 1, 2020, the Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act of 2018 has expanded MWR access to veterans with service-connected disabilities (0-100%), Purple Heart recipients, former POWs, and their caregivers. I want to focus some of my future videos on places like this that we have stayed so that other qualified veterans can go enjoy them too. Let me by your guide to veteran travel! We live 5 miles from the KATY trail in Missouri. We will be posting lots of KATY trail videos, so subscribe if you don't want to miss them. Because we live so close, we get to experience the KATY in different seasons. Most people only ride it in the Summer, but Fall and Spring can be mighty nice on that trail.
