We ❤️ waterfalls & mountains & fell in love with West Virginia on our first trip together there five years ago. With so much to explore…from lakes, rivers, state and national parks, wild rugged landscapes, backcountry camping, small towns and more. We keep coming back! It was fitting that we kicked off the new year 2025 with a 3-day/2-night January getaway to the mountains in the Monongahela National Forest. We enjoyed a winter storm, a barnyard of animals, a cozy rustic cabin, hikes to the top of Seneca Rocks and to Blackwater Falls. Seeing Blackwater Falls at the start of a snowstorm was magical!! ❄️ Did you know? 🏔️Seneca Rocks is one of the best-known landmarks in West Virginia. Rising 900 feet above the North Fork River, they are popular for hikers and rock climbers. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mnf/r... 📸 Blackwater Falls State Park has some of the most photographed sites in West Virginia. It is located in the Allegheny Mountains in Tucker County, West Virginia near the small towns of Davis and Thomas. https://wvstateparks.com/park/blackwa... Where we stayed: 🐐 For this trip we found the most amazing winter escape - a stay at the Renovated Barn at Seneca Rocks. The original barn dates back to the early part of the 20th century with renovations completed in 2013 by the owners who live on property. https://www.senecarocksbarn.com/ The cutest, coziest, romantic & unique place. Sharing a barn with a barnyard of cute animals added to the experience. The cozy one-room space has everything you need for a short getaway & is a perfect spot for a couple. We loved feeding the animals & watching their interactions with us & each other. The barn is located close to many beautiful attractions - Seneca Rocks is just 7 minutes away & other fantastic destinations like Seneca Caverns, N Rocks, Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls SP & Canaan Valley are all within a 45 minute drive.
