On today’s episode I am speaking with Psychiatrist Dr Kenny Hendelman who is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist who is an expert in ADHD. He is board-certified in Canada and the US and is the founder and medical director of The Centre for Integrative Mental Health – a clinic that assesses and treats ADHD across the lifespan. This video discusses the unique `emotional struggle` faced by people with `adhd in adults`, particularly when their `invisible work` and efforts go `feeling unnoticed`. We explore `why it hurts` when repeated attempts to achieve goals are met with a lack of acknowledgment, leading to frustration and a sense of futility. Understanding this experience is crucial for fostering support and empathy. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. Dr. Handelman is the best-selling author of Attention Difference Disorder, a book for parents of kids and teens with ADHD. Dr. Handelman speaks internationally on ADHD and has taught doctors and other healthcare professionals in 20 countries across North America, Europe, and Asia. He is regularly interviewed by the media, including CBC Newsworld, CTV, the Toronto Star and more. He has an ADHD Podcast which has had over 300,000 downloads worldwide. He also has Adult ADHD himself. On this episode we discuss The changing nature of ADD then ADHD diagnosis The imbalance of diagnosis between boys, girls, men and women The overdiagnosis and underdiagnosis of ADHD How people with ADHD struggle with goal-directed focus With self-esteem Sense of self-worth Self-Compassion We talk about how the two of us have struggled and succeeded in living with ADHD We cover how different people navigate their experience with ADHD and how they are treated Ideas from his book, titled Attention Difference Disorder, a book for parents of kids and teens with ADHD We could only cover so much ground and could have continued talking for hours, and perhaps will do another episode down the road! 🔗FOLLOW ▶Web - https://startswithme.ca ▶YouTube - https://goo.gl/P4L9hH 🎧 PODCAST ▶ Apple - https://goo.gl/tkZKgh ▶ Spotify - https://goo.gl/iabccZ ▶ Amazon - https://amzn.to/3uHiFFG ▶ Web - https://startswithme.ca/mentalhealthp...
