In this week's edition of Behind The Headlines, we will discuss the concerning decision made by the British Prime Minister to prevent the US Air Force from using RAF airbases to strike the Iranian regime. The Daily Telegraph has reported that Keir Starmer has blocked Donald Trump from accessing RAF bases for potential strikes on Iran. It is believed that the US president has withdrawn his support for Sir Keir’s Chagos deal due to the UK government’s refusal to grant consent for the US to use military bases in the UK for bombing runs. Recently, the US has been assembling contingency plans for a direct attack on Iran, with long-range bombers and refuelling aircraft being sent to the Middle East. Starmer is sending a dangerous message to President Trump, indicating that he will not align British foreign policy with US strategic and military objectives aimed at preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons. At best, Starmer is displaying weakness and cowardice; at worst, he is aligning himself and the British government with the Iranian regime, known as the world’s leading state sponsor of international terrorism.
