The pond, located at 2000 Rosecliff Circle in Sanford, Florida, was later fenced — but only after Kai’s death. The Goodlander family has reached a $15.5 million settlement with the property owners and managers, who were accused of failing to follow safety codes and industry standards designed to protect children. Attorneys say the unsecured pond posed a clear and foreseeable danger. Autumn Goodlander is now calling for statewide accountability, urging apartment complexes and residential communities across Florida to properly secure retention ponds and prioritize child safety.
