📺 This story originally aired on CBS Orlando. - --- After the drowning of her 7-year-old son, Kai Goodlander, in an unfenced retention pond at the Huntington Reserve Apartments, Autumn Goodlander is speaking out to prevent future tragedies. Kai drowned in January 2024 after wandering near a retention pond that lacked required safety barriers and featured steep, dangerous slopes. The pond, located at 2000 Rosecliff Circle in Sanford, Florida, was later fenced — but only after Kai’s death. The Goodlander family has reached a $15.5 million settlement with the property owners and managers, who were accused of failing to follow safety codes and industry standards designed to protect children. Attorneys say the unsecured pond posed a clear and foreseeable danger. Autumn Goodlander is now calling for statewide accountability, urging apartment complexes and residential communities across Florida to properly secure retention ponds and prioritize child safety. The family is represented by The Haggard Law Firm. Autumn is available for interviews along with her attorney, Adam Finkel who says this case should serve as a powerful warning to property owners about the deadly consequences of ignoring safety standards. 📺 This story originally aired on CBS Orlando.
