Full journey on board a West Midlands Metro Ubros 3 (Urbos 100) tram from Wolverhampton Railway Station to Edgbaston Village (line 1) via Birmingham city centre. This journey was filmed in the first few weeks that the route between Wolverhampton Station and The Royal on the final stage of the Line 1 extension opened. Services on this route were operating every 10 minutes at the time of filming along the entire line 1 route to the station however once issues with the Metro trams have been fully fixed the service level will return to the full 6-8 minute frequency along the whole route when more trams are available with alternate trams planned to operate to Wolverhampton St Georges. During early mornings, evenings and Sundays the Metro operates every 15 minutes. Although this is line 1 there are currently no other West Midlands Metro routes in operation with line 2 from Wednesbury to Dudley town centre currently being under construction, along with the eastside extension towards curzon street ready for HS2 which will continue towards Digbeth and possible further in the future. The westside extension is now fully open. Once Wolverhampton St Georges reopens alternate line 1 services will use this stop instead of serving the bus and rail stations in Wolverhampton. The trams used on the Metro are fairly with the original Metro trams being withdrawn in the early 2010s. The current trams are all CAF Urbos units with the Urbos 3 being the older variants which this journey was filmed on and the newer Urbos 100 units being delivered to provide the necessary capacity for the extensions to the metro. The Urbos 3 trams are being refurbished from there operation as Midland Metro. This Metro route opened in stages from 1999 to 2023 with the original section from Wolverhampton St Georges to Birmingham Snow Hill being opened in 1999 and using an old railway alignment for much of its route with the only street running section being between Priestfield and Wolverhampton. All extensions since then have been either street running or on new tram only sections. Between St Pauls and The Hawthorns the tramway runs alongside the Snow Hill line from Birmingham Snow Hill to Kidderminster and Worcester. In 2015 the Snow Hill terminus was replaced by St Chads stop and extended to Bull Street. In 2016 the line extended to Grand Central for New Street Station. In 2019 the line extended to Library Centenary Square with this section being fully battery operated with no overhead wires. In 2022 the line extended to Edgbaston Village the final phase of the westside extension using a mix of battery and overhead wire operation. In 2023 the final line 1 extension to Wolverhampton Station opened using a mix of battery and overhead wire operation. On the Metro there are interchanges with national rail services at Grand Central (Birmingham New Street), Bull Street/St Chads (Birmingham Snow Hill), Jewellery Quarter, The Hawthorns and Wolverhampton with Five Ways being a short walk away from Five Ways railway station.
