The Big Score is the sixth and final heist in Grand Theft Auto V and the penultimate mission of the storyline. Michael, Trevor, and Franklin team up for their most ambitious robbery yet—stealing massive gold reserves from the Union Depository. The mission begins with Michael driving the Oracle to the Union Depository alongside the assigned gunman. Meanwhile, Franklin is positioned outside the underground vault operating an HVY Cutter. Michael and the gunman approach the bank’s front entrance, drawing police attention while Franklin drills through the vault tunnel. After creating an opening in the vault wall, the player positions the Cutter safely away and plants explosives on both vault doors. Once detonated, the doors blow open, revealing the gold. A NOOSE tactical unit quickly descends into the tunnel. The player must defend the selected gunman while he pushes carts of gold toward the pickup location. Using reliable firearms—such as the Advanced Rifle or a Minigun—greatly helps in clearing waves of officers. When both carts have been moved, control shifts to Trevor, who airlifts the gold north toward Blaine County. The gunman accompanying Franklin escapes on his own, and gameplay flips to Michael, who is locked in an intense shootout with police forces. The player must hold out under heavy fire until Franklin becomes available again. As Michael and Franklin regroup, a Buzzard Attack Chopper arrives, requiring quick destruction using an RPG or minigun. After eliminating it, the team pushes toward the underground garage where the getaway car is hidden. Police continue spawning infinitely, so movement must be timed based on character dialogue cues. Upon reaching the parking area, a NOOSE team arrives in Grangers. The player destroys these vehicles with explosives—careful not to damage the getaway car—then enters the vehicle, preferably as Franklin due to his special driving ability. Escaping with a five-star wanted level is difficult but manageable by hiding underground in areas like the sewers or subway tunnels. Once the heat dies down, the mission switches back to Trevor. Trevor continues flying his helicopter carrying the gold, following the lead pilot. Merryweather helicopters intervene, forcing Lester to take shots while Trevor keeps the chopper stable. The player must ensure the gold containers do not detach; losing both or allowing the other helicopter to crash results in mission failure. If Karim Denz is chosen as a pilot and lacks experience, there's a high chance he may crash regardless—so the player should plan carefully before the heist. After defeating Merryweather’s forces, Trevor drops the gold onto a moving train. From there, he pilots the helicopter to McKenzie Field Hangar. The crew gathers for the final debrief. Lester is ecstatic, delivering one of his most excited moments in the game. The team is upbeat until Michael reminds them to avoid making big purchases until the gold can be safely sold. However, if Karim dies, half the gold is lost. The ending cutscene reflects the impact of this loss—Michael, Franklin, and the surviving crew become somber as Trevor informs them of Karim’s death and the missing gold. Regardless of the outcome, Michael, Trevor, and Lester fly off to secure the remaining gold, while Franklin and the surviving hired crew depart in the getaway vehicles. This mission closes out the crew’s largest heist, showcasing intense firefights, flying challenges, coordinated teamwork, and the ultimate payoff (or loss) depending on the player’s choices. The crew becomes disappointed and angry with their loss. The cutscene then ends with Michael, Trevor and Lester flying away to the gold's new location, while Franklin and the gunman drive away in the new getaway vehicle.
