Cecilia Vicuña discusses her debut exhibition at the gallery, 'Arch Future', with curator Daniel Blanga Gubbay in this new video. “There’s always some cosmological dimension embedded in human culture – the only trouble is that people have forgotten it. But it’s still there.”—Cecilia Vicuña Music: composition by Cosmo Sheldrake; chanting by Cecilia Vicuña and Giuliana Furci (Fungi Foundation) — with field recordings from the Los Cedros Cloud Forest, where a new species of magic mushroom, Psilocybe stametsii, was rediscovered in 2022. The music was part of an immersive installation as part of the exhibition 'Arch Future'. Cecilia Vicuña (b. 1948, Santiago, Chile) lives and works between Santiago and New York. She received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale, Italy in 2022. Other awards include the The Eric and Wendy Schmidt Environment and Art Prize, LA, CA (2024); Premio Velázquez de Artes Plásticas, Madrid, Spain (2019); Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, Santa Monica, CA (2019); Anonymous Was a Woman Award, New York, NY (1999); and The Andy Warhol Foundation Award, New York, NY (1997). In 2023-2024, a major travelling retrospective has been jointly organised by Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA), Santiago; Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA); and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo. Other recent solo exhibitions include: Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami, FL (2024); Fourth Universalist Society, Central Park West, New York, NY (2024); Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, São Paulo (2024); Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) (2023); Museo Precolombino, Santiago (2023); MOCA, Tucson (2023); Tate Modern, London (2022); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (2022); Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia (MAMU), Bogotá (2022); Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M), Madrid (2021); Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City (2020); and CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco (2020), among others. Daniel Blanga Gubbay is a performing arts curator and writer. Since 2018, he has been at the artistic direction of Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels. He has worked as an educator and independent curator of performance and public programs, including at the upcoming São Paulo Biennial (2025); Yogurt and Other Spaces of Labour (Ashkal Alwan, Beirut, 2021, in collaboration with Zeynep Öz); and Can Nature Revolt? (Manifesta, Palermo, 2018). He holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and is a founding member of Celador, a space for experimenting with language in Brussels, as well as a member of the artistic committee of the Beirut Art Centre. He teaches at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and writes in various contexts, currently contributing a recurring column on choreography to Mousse Magazine titled Notes on Spitting.
