VN24 - 04-10-2023 (D/M/Y) - Unna A1 / Germany - (Part 2 - the salvage in the morning) A dramatic accident occurred on the A1 Freeway in the night of 04 October. A few hundred metres after the motorway junction Unna/Dortmund (A1/A44), a transporter (Mercedes Sprinter) with trailer hit a truck with a roll-off container trailer that was almost stopped at the end of a traffic jam at about 01:54 in the southbound direction. The impact was so violent that it caused the trailer of the truck to buckle under the roll-off container at an angle of almost 90 degrees. The 39-year-old passenger in the van was killed. The 40-year-old driver was rescued from his trapped position behind the steering wheel by the fire brigade. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The 35-year-old driver of the truck escaped without injuries. Until the early hours of the morning, the fire brigade tried to separate the two vehicles involved in the accident with the help of several winches and a 70-tonne crane belonging to the Dortmund fire brigade. The police interrupted this work shortly before 04:00 and froze the accident site for further extensive investigations.
