Homestyle Dal Khichdi Recipe | Our Daily Bread | A comforting dal khichdi upgraded with a flavorful onion-tomato masala. Made with rice, yellow moong dal, and aromatic spices, this hearty one-pot meal is perfect for lunch or dinner. Simple, delicious, and full of homestyle flavors. 📝 Ingredients: • ½ cup yellow moong dal (washed & soaked) • ½ cup rice (washed & soaked) • 2 cups water • ¼ tsp turmeric powder • Salt to taste For Masala Tadka: • 2 tbsp oil • 2 dried red chillies • 1 tsp cumin seeds • 2–3 garlic cloves (finely chopped) • A pinch of hing (asafoetida) • 1 onion (finely chopped) • Small piece ginger (finely chopped) • 2 green chillies (finely chopped) • 1 tomato (finely chopped) • ¼ tsp turmeric powder • 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder • ½ tsp coriander powder • ½ tsp cumin powder • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish) 👩🍳 Method: 1. In a pressure cooker, add water, soaked moong dal, and rice. 2. Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well. 3. Cover and cook for 3–4 whistles until soft and mushy. Let the pressure release naturally. 4. Heat oil in a separate pan. 5. Add dried red chillies and cumin seeds; let them splutter. 6. Add chopped garlic and sauté until lightly golden. 7. Add hing and chopped onion. Sauté until soft. 8. Add chopped ginger and green chillies. Sauté for a few seconds. 9. Add chopped tomato and cook until soft and mushy. 10. Add turmeric powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. 11. Sauté until the oil separates from the masala. 12. Once the dal and rice are cooked, add this prepared masala into the cooker. 13. Mix well and adjust salt if required. 14. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
