Sensodance Mark Hertensteiner This project seeks to translate dance motion into expressive music through the meaningful sonification of data gathered from bodymounted sensors during live performance. Sensors include three 9degreeoffreedom IMUs, one on the head and each wrist, and two muscle sensors, one on each leg. Challenges have included transmitting data from all of the sensors to a computer running Max/MSP through an Arduinocompatible board using WiFi, and employing that data in the generation of compelling musical sound. Music 250A: Physical Interction Design for Music is a lab and project-based course that explores how we can physically interact with real-time electronic sound. Students learn to use and design sensors, circuits, embedded computers, communication protocols and sound synthesis. Advanced topics include real-time media, haptics, sound synthesis using physical model analogs, and human-computer interaction theory and practice. Course culminates in musical performance with or exhibition of completed design projects. http://ccrma.stanford.edu/courses/250a
