In the first episode of season 2, we shift focus to a development impacting labour justice at a collective level. October marks Mental Health Awareness Month, and we are joined by Hanlie Wessels (mailto:hanlie@resilientwork.org) from the Resilient Workplace Institute (RWI) (https://hanlie.resilientwork.org/) to talk about a pioneering digital Harassment Risk Assessment tool (https://hanlie.resilientwork.org/) tailored for South African workplaces. The tool supports implementation of the 2022 Harassment Code (https://www.labour.gov.za/DocumentCen...) and ILO Convention 190 (https://www.ilo.org/topics-and-sector...) and has already been deployed in sectors ranging from retail, mining, and construction. Hanlie shares the motivation behind the development of the tool, and what the data reveals (spoiler: sarcasm is more damaging than you think), and how data can shift employers beyond reactive compliance towards impactful, systemic change. We reflect on whether we’re making meaningful progress in the fight against workplace harassment or if we’re simply naming the problem more often. Hanlie can be contacted at hanlie@resilientwork.org (mailto:hanlie@resilientwork.org) .
