On Saturday 19th April, London Fire Brigade hosted its first-ever St. George’s Day Open Day at Dockhead Fire Station — a vibrant, inclusive community celebration filled with live demonstrations, entertainment, and family fun. A huge thank you to the LFB Welfare Fund, whose generous funding made this event possible. Did you know that St. George is honoured not just in England, but across the world — from Palestine and Ethiopia to Georgia, Catalonia, and beyond? Celebrated by people of multiple faiths, St. George is a symbol of courage, unity and service. With over 1,500 people attending and more than £600 raised for charity, the event featured: • Fire engine tours and live rescue demonstrations • Community stalls, delicious food, and family entertainment • Face painting, live music, and traditional dancing • A visit from St. George himself and a talk by the LFB Chaplain • A warm welcome to everyone, young and old The day opened with an introduction by Frankie Birch, followed by a theatrical appearance by actor Jon Campling as St. George. Mia Hilborn, Head of Chaplaincy at LFB, delivered a powerful message on the multicultural legacy of St. George. Helen Rea, one of the event organisers, shared her hopes for this to become an annual tradition — open to all.
