The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows: Scattered thunderstorms will develop across the interior this weekend as a tropical trough moves south, bringing heavy rain to Gauteng, eastern Free State Province, western KwaZulu-Natal, and the southern Drakensberg. At the same time, temperatures remain warm to hot across most provinces except the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, where cooler conditions persist. The weather service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe storms over the Free State, southwestern North West, northeastern Northern Cape, northern Eastern Cape, western KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga’s Highveld and escarpment, with threats including flash flooding on low-lying roads and bridges, frequent lightning, minor hail, and damaging winds. At the same time, dangerous fire conditions are forecast for central and eastern Northern Cape, western Free State, and southwestern Western Cape.
