We Went INSIDE An Old Water Tunnel Beneath Our Homestead in Italy This week on our rural Italian homestead, we take on a daunting but very important task: restoring the off-grid water system that runs beneath our homestead. After pulling out a 60-meter pump from our old water well, we needed to clean the old stone water reserve carved into the caves — 20 metres long, dark, narrow, damp and full of inhabitants. What we find inside takes us by surprise… (or at least one of us). With flashlights and courage, we enter the water tunnel (called the fontana in Italian) for the first time in around 10 years to restore it & clean it out. After years of silence, we bring it back to life—pumping fresh water from the well into the fontana once again.
