The Animals & Society Colloquium Series is co-sponsored by the Animals and Society Institute and the ASA Animals & Society Section. Description: Each year millions of people visit monarch butterfly sanctuaries, firefly aggregations, glow worm caves, and butterfly pavilions. By highlighting the popularity of entomotourism and its potential as a form of interspecies education for multispecies flourishing, this presentations seeks to move entomotourism from the recreational margins to the mainstream of research on tourism in Human-Animal studies. Speaker: Harvey Lemelin, PhD. For nearly twenty years, Dr. Lemelin has showcased human interactions with insects in recreation and tourism settings. His findings have been published in several interdisciplinary journal articles and in the book The Management of Insects in Recreation and Tourism. A fervent proponent of insect pollinators, Dr. Lemelin and his family have converted most of their yard into a pollinator garden.
