The Andalusien landscape with its yellow corn fields, green olive and orange trees and the old cork oaks are often mentioned in Lorca's poetry. The Andalusian poet and playwright lived with his parents and three siblings in Fuente Vaqueros, near Granada. In 1909 the family moved to Granada city center. Lorca was very musical and received music lessons as a child from Antonio Segua, a former student of Giuseppe Verdi. Instead of studying music as he wanted, his father convinced him that studying law would be a better choice for his future. Lorca wrote his first poem at the age of seventeen and also enjoyed drawing. In addition to his lyrical and dramatic work, Lorca also later took guitarre lessons from Manuel de Falla. In 1921 he met the composer from Cádiz, who became his fatherly friend. Lorca also admired him as a sensitive and art-critic author. From 1919 - 1928 Lorca lived in the Residencia de Estudiantes, a student residence in Madrid, which was run according to the cosmopolitan principles at Oxford and Cambridge. For Lorca, this was an ideal place for friendly and intellectual exchange. In 1922, the young, still very shy Catalan Salvador Dali arrived at the residencia. Luis Bunuel also arrives a little later. Lorca immediately fell in love with Dali, who in turn greatly admired the Andalusian poet genius. Dali and Lorca fought against the cultural "decay" of Spanish art. In their passionate friendship, they maintained a constant dialogue about the act of creation, modernity and the meaning of art. In the summer of 1925, Lorca visited Dali in the fishing village of Cadaques and was very impressed by the place. He drew a lot and always wrote to his friends about how much he admired Dali's thinking and his art. In 1928, Lorca worked on publishing the art magazine "Gallo", in which was also published contributions to Dali's writings and art. Lorca repeated and enthusiastically describes the people and the incomparable landscape of Andalusia. When the book "Romancero gitano" (Gypsy romances) was published at the end of July 1928, the entire Spanish-speaking world was enthusiastic about it. Not so Dali and Bunuel. He received only ridicule and scorn from them. It was the dilemma between tradition (Gypsy romances) avantgarde (surrealism). A fact that ultimately led to the breakup of the friendship to the trio "Dali-Lorca-Bunuel". Inspired by Bunuel, who was not unaware of the difficult friendship (Dali was not homosexual) with Lorca, Dali went to Paris in 1928 and worked on two scripts with Bunuel. "The Andalusian Dog" was performed very successfully in Paris in 1929. The other film "The Golden Age", caused a major scandal in 1930 and was no longer shown until 1981. Lorca believed he saw a mockery of himself in "The Andalusian Dog" and was deeply offended. It was the beginning of the end of the difficult relationship between Dali and Lorca. Dali stayed in Paris, joined the Surrealists and met Gala, whom he married in 1934.Gala was ten years older and very business-minded. Every document, no matter how small, had to be submitted to Galla for approval. It is therefore very likely that Gala destroyed most of the explosive correspondence between Dali and Lorca before her death. Lorca enjoyed great literary success from 1928 onwards. All his works were enthusiastically received by the Spanish audience. During his readings, Lorca often accompanied himself on his guitarre and sang Andalusian songs. After the break with Dali, Lorca - despite his successes - often fell into a deep depression. He then decided to travel to America, where he was a student at Columbia University in New York in 1929/1930. A short trip to Cuba turns out to be a great stroke of luck. He then returned to Spain. On August 13, 1934, Ignacio Sánchez Mejias, Lorca's friend, died after a bullfight. Lorca lamented this loss in a long poem. In April 1931, the Second Republic was proclaimed in Spain, which Lorca was enthusiastic about. He worked obsessively on his two tragedies "The Blood Wedding" and "Bernarda Alba's Haus". He went on reading tour through Spain and South America in 1933/34. When the Spanish Civile War in July 1936 began, Federico Garcia Lorca was arrested in his home in Granada, interroged for a few days and then literally executed, shot and buried on the way to Vizar (near Grenada). The exact location is unknown. Friends had recommanded Lorca to travel to Mexico. He agreed, but wanted to say goodbye to his family; which was his downfall. The violent death of his friend probably bothered Dali for the rest of his life. Therefore Dali created the beautiful painting "Invisible Afghane with the Appearance of the Face of Garcia Lorca" in 1958.
