Fremont Nebraska is a major junction along the Union Pacific’s transcontinental route. It’s also a crew change point. At Fremont the Columbus Subdivision running from Fremont to Grand Island ends and becomes the Blair Sub which runs northeast towards Missouri Valley Iowa & the Omaha Sub which runs to east to Council Bluffs before turning north and hooking onto the Boone and Blair sub at Mo valley. Fremont is also a crew change point and builds various trains such as grain and coal. There’s a decent sized yard which serves customers in and around town as well as interchange with BNSF. Occasionally, trains will work the yard to drop or pick cars and or locomotives. UP also interchanges with the Local from Valley which is about 11 miles east along the Omaha Sub. Main traffic in Fremont for UP is Manifest, Intermodal and coal. With a siding on the north side of town and one jus a couple miles south it’s easy to become quickly busy. Mainline traffic consists of manifests, grain and ethanol.
