A Caprotti 5 in the Snow - The Midland Railway, Butterley - 17/01/16

The first filming outing of 2016 saw us heading north, for a first time visit to the Midland Railway Butterley. This was for the second day of their 'Caprotti Crescendo' event, which saw the unique Caprotti geared Standard 5 no.73129 making her final runs before being withdrawn from service, pending an overhaul. Joining her would be Peckett 0-4-0ST no.1163 'Whitehead' and a Class 127 DMU, making up a three train service throughout the day, although these two don't feature. Not being familiar with the area, all the shots are taken around the Swanwick site. I did have plans to walk the path to the footbridge by the Country Park, but as I was unsure how long it would take to get there, I decided against it. That and the walking conditions weren't ideal. I later found out it was only a 15-20 minute walk, so I probably could have gone there; there's always next time. All in all though it was lovely to see 73129 again, especially in the snowy conditions we were blessed with during the day. The highlight of the day though was the trip on her final public run, for which I did some audio recording. So expect a bonus video coming, hopefully, tomorrow.
