We're so grateful to have hosted this conversation between Kayla Colbert, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Siege Media, and Nick LeRoy, found of SEOjobs.com and independent consultant. The conversation between Kayla and Nick covers the current state of the SEO market, the impact of AI on SEO, the challenges in hiring and job seeking, the quality of talent in the industry, and the role of ATS in the hiring process. They also cover personal branding, community involvement, the skills and qualities sought after in SEO professionals, as well as the hiring process at Siege Media. The Hot Tips For your Application 1. Your resume will be skimmed with the headline and most recent experience getting the most attention - make sure this punches. 2. Try to focus more on your experience than on "padding" like awards and certificates. 3. If nothing's working, get feedback on your resume from a peer that works in a similar niche. 3. Technical skills and communication skills are both important in SEO roles, but a technical person would have to be pretty magical to get away with not having communication skills. 4. It's necessary to a degree to "play the game" to align your resume to the job application, but recruiters can definitely tell when an application was entirely spit out from an LLM and that's a red flag. 5. A personal brand is more necessary now than it has been in the past, with Kayla mentioning that she goes to all candidate's linkedin profiles to look for how they present themselves. Make sure that if your resume is linked, that it works. 6. Don't give up and observe the trends around you - we've noticed a little more action in Q4/Q1 2026 than earlier in 2025.
