Tonight we have a history of this WW2 airfield near Lincoln in Lincolnshire No. 5 Group Bomber Command County: Lincolnshire Location: 10 miles SE of Lincoln Opened: /1943 Closed: /1946 Pundit Code: MN Control Tower: Watch Office for All Commands, 12779/41 with smaller windows to 343/43 Condition: Ruinous Runways: 3 concrete runways. (015) 2,000 by 50 yards, (128) 1,400 by 50 yards & (246) 1,400 by 50 yards Hardstandings: Being to the later Class A specification, 34 of the hardstandings were loop type and only two pans Hangars: One of the standard T2 hangars was placed on the technical site, which was alongside the B1189 near Linwood Grange, between runway heads 02 and 07, and the other off the east perimeter track between runway heads 25 and 31. A B1 hangar lay north of runway head 13 near Barff Farm Bomb Stores: Located around Blackthorn Holt and other woodland between runway heads 13 and 20 Ad., tech. & barr.: Constructed directly south around the B1189 and consisted of one mess, one communal, one WAAF, four domestic and a sick quarters. Population: RAF Officers - 91 , OR - 661, WAAF Officers - 10 , OR - 322 No. 106 Squadron lost 65 Lancasters and crews in operations flown from the airfield
