Digging Through the Death Pile! | My Antique & Vintage Storage House

When your ‘death piles’ get too big, they become storage lockers, garages full—or in my case, a storage house! For the past year, I’ve been piling antique and vintage goods from estate sales, consignment overstocks and antique shows in an Earlington, Kentucky 1890s coal miner’s shack that also once served as a church. Now’s the perfect time to rediscover lost treasures, and show you the array of collecting categories I’m pulling out for sale! I’m surprised at some of the good stuff I find that didn’t get out to the winter shows in Florida. A valuable French modernist print leans on a pile of hubcaps. Satsuma and Strawberry Shortcake occupy the same box. From Alaskan native baskets to Florida flamingoes, the variety of goods that ended up in this midwestern location reflects my nationwide wanderings as the Antique Nomad. Where do you find a house that’s cheaper than a storage locker? How did I get such a nice rack? Why am I walking backwards? I use a “flashback” to explain why I chose this place for my overstocks, and muse a little about restoration and repair, what should sell online and what should stay for an upcoming onsite estate sale.
