Lake Kawaguchiko is located Yamanashi Prefecture’s which attracts especially many visitors in Spring cherry blossom season and in autumn when the fall foliage season is coming every year. Kochia or Summer cypress is a stumpy round plant which turns bright scarlet in October. In Japan Kochia is also known as “hokigusa” which translates to “broom plant” as the plant’s stems were dried and used to make broom in the past. Oishi Park is one of the best spots to view MT Fuji in the background Kawaguchiko (Lake), is located on the northern shore of Lake Kawaguchiko. Various flowers bloom on the promenade along the lakeside according to the season. Some 2600 Kochia plants are grown in Oishi Park, and their leaves have turned bright red since around mid-October. 350 meter-long “Flower Road” on the west side of Oishi Park. You can enjoy colorful flowers throughout the season. At the end of the flower road Kochia (Summer Cypress) spreads all over from Summer to autumn, making it a popular photo spot. We visited Oishi Park by car, from Saitama Shintoshin Highway passed Junction Bijyogi and Hachioji to kawagutiko Lake. In smooth traffic it may takes about 2 hours. Because of too heavy traffic that took us almost 5 hours. it’s depending on traffic conditions on the day. So, we recommend taking train is the best way to visit Lake Kawaguchiko. From Saitama Omiya: First you need to get to Shinjuku. Transfer to take the JR Chuo line to Otsuki. Then Transfer to Fujikyuko line to Lake Kawaguchiko. If you can get up early morning, it’s quite convenient from Tokyo to take one day trip. And You can search for other route from Shinjuku station, just take care the price and which cars will going to Kawaguchiko.
