2022 UTokyo 3MT – Mika Hayashi – Deciphering our DNA through the lens of AI "Born in Japan but raised in Canada on an addicting diet of videogames and art, my educational career has always been science oriented. Now as a PhD student working towards developing and applying technologies that combine molecular imaging with microfluidics and machine learning to further our understanding of biology and medicine, my experiences in multidisciplinary research have cultured my fervent belief for the need for proper communication and collaboration between professionals of different fields. Along my academic journey across the international date line and through turbulent literature searches in topics I had no prior background in, I have come to realize the importance of developing good science communication and presentation skills that could make or break someone’s success in learning something new. On top of that, if I can use the need to develop visual communication skills as an excuse to draw more, then I am definitely not complaining" These videos are part of The University of Tokyo’s fourth Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition. Seventeen PhD students each introduce their research in under three minutes, in English, with just a single slide.
