This is Part 2 in our Arizona Insect Collecting 2019 series. Madera Canyon is one of the fabled places for observing field guide quality insects within the United States. This video begins with me talking about the place and my friends I travel with, and then transitions to some insect video clips and then ends with a discussion on the map with various anecdotes about my trips there. Madera Canyon Road is a wonderful place to look for insects even before you get up into higher elevations in the Santa Rita Mountains themselves. It's about an hour south of Tucson and a famous spot for birds and other wildlife moving back and forth through the region, including Mexico. It's very special because of this biodiversity and being at elevation it supports a diversity of plant life much different than the surrounding desert floor, which in turn supports animals, including insects. And, being cooler, it's a wonderful place to spend a hot day. It really greens up when the rains come too and that's when things get really exciting for insect enthusiasts like us, as this video reflects. More footage of our time in this area is available in later videos in this playlist. Enjoy!
