INTACH Conservation Institute Lecture Series 'Conservation Insights 2020’ was delivered on17th December at 1700 IST via Zoom Speaker: David Thickett (Senior Conservation Scientist, English Heritage, UK TOTAL) The title of the talk: Preventive Conservation of Metals Metals corrosion depends on RH, pollutant gases and particles. Different metals react to different factors more strongly. Understanding the exact requirements for objects allows much more targeted and effective preventive conservation. Copper alloys, steels, lead and archaeological iron and copper alloys will be reviewed. Showcase performance can be matched to the requirements for displayed metals objects and the room environment. Recent research has elucidated many elements of showcase performance and how to design new showcases and refit existing showcases. Low tech, accessible ways of monitoring environment corrosiveness, pollutant gas levels, particulate deposition and impact on metal corrosion will be discussed. #ConservationInsights2020 #ScientificAnalysis #MetalConservation
